Dementia Adventure and the Maldon And Dengie Stroke Support & Carers’ Group are among 14 local charities that are celebrating after receiving a healthy funding boost from the Provide Foundation.
Grants totalling £88,905 were awarded from the fund which is managed by the independent charitable trust, Essex Community Foundation (ECF). Set up in 2012, the Provide Foundation gives support to voluntary and community organisations that are delivering projects which improve the health and well-being of local people.
Dementia Adventure based in Chelmsford and working across Essex received the top award of £20,000 to support their work helping people living with dementia, and their carers.
Lucy Harding, co-founder of Dementia Adventure, said: “We are ecstatic to have received this significant funding boost which will enable us to run workshops to educate and equip people who are caring for someone with dementia. We aim to give them the information and tools to improve the quality of life for both themselves and the person they care for.
She added, “The courses will help loved ones and carers, to better understand dementia, build on their communication skills and learn the benefits of connecting with nature.”
Maldon And Dengie Stroke Support & Carers’ Group received £10,000 to continue the services that they offer to people affected by Stroke, and their carers, to ensure well-being and reduce isolation.
The Rural Community Council of Essex and Essex Central Remap, a charity which designs and makes inventive equipment for disabled people, also received grants of £5,000 each.
Peter Livingstone, chairman of Remap, said: “We are thrilled to receive this grant from the Provide Foundation.
“Restoring independence and enabling anyone, regardless of their disabilities, to live their life to the fullest is at the heart of what we do. This funding will be used to ensure people have the equipment they need, so that they can leave hospital and get back into the comfort of their own homes”.
Provide is a community interest company (CIC) which delivers a wide range of community health services across Essex and in Cambridgeshire (including Peterborough), Suffolk and Norfolk as well as the London borough of Waltham Forest.
Derrick Louis, Chairman of Provide said: “At Provide, we recognise that supporting local charities and voluntary organisations is a very important part of our work and helps to underpin the social and care services that we offer.
“As a CIC organisation we happily accept our obligation to re-invest part of our surpluses back into the communities we serve. Our partnership with Essex Community Foundation means that we can effectively invest funds into voluntary organisations whose work complements our own.
“Having established the Provide Foundation with ECF we can do this in the most efficient and effective way and we are committed to awarding grants year on year to support the voluntary sector in Essex.”
As an independent charitable trust, ECF can give Provide impartial information on the organisations involved, helping their Members and staff to make decisions, with confidence, knowing that the money will be directed to where it is needed most.
