The Essex Wellbeing Service Outreach Team joined forces with local partners for a community litter pick along Clacton seafront, demonstrating the positive impact that collaboration and volunteering can have on local communities.

Representatives from HCRG Care Group, Essex Child and Family Wellbeing Services, Age Well East, Rural Community Council of Essex (RCCE) and Kinder Essex came together with the Essex Wellbeing Service Outreach Team, united by a shared commitment to making a positive difference to the local environment and helping to create cleaner, healthier communities. Tendring District Council supported the initiative by providing litter pickers and bags, enabling the group to get to work clearing litter from the seafront.

As the bags began to fill, participants were able to see the visible difference their collective efforts were making. The team’s hard work did not go unnoticed, with local residents, visitors and even members of the local lifeguard team stopping to thank the volunteers and comment on the improvement to the area.

Alongside the environmental benefits, the litter pick provided an opportunity for participants to spend time outdoors, get active, connect with others and enjoy the sense of achievement that comes from contributing to something positive.

Speaking about the event, Georgina Stokes, Service Manager of Essex Wellbeing Service Outreach Team, said: “It was fantastic to see so many of our local partners come together with a shared commitment to making a positive difference. While we could clearly see the impact we had made on the seafront, the benefits of the day went much further than collecting litter.

“Getting outdoors, being active, connecting with others and doing something positive for the community are all important for our wellbeing. The event was a brilliant example of what can be achieved through collaboration and how volunteering can create genuine social value, bringing people together around a shared purpose while helping to create cleaner, healthier places for everyone to enjoy.”

The litter pick is a great example of social value in action, with organisations working together to deliver benefits that extend beyond their day-to-day services. By giving their time to improve a shared community space, participants helped enhance the local environment while strengthening relationships between partner organisations and the communities they support.

The event also highlighted the wider value of volunteering and how even relatively simple actions can have a meaningful impact. Whether improving a local environment, supporting wellbeing or creating stronger connections between people, volunteering can help transform communities and encourage others to play their part.

Through partnership working and a shared commitment to improving wellbeing, Essex Wellbeing Service and its local partners continue to look for opportunities to make a positive difference to the communities they serve.
