Home Start Essex, a network of trained volunteers which supports families with young children who are struggling through challenging times, recently received a cheque for £2,000 to help support more home visits across Mid-Essex.

Each year, Home Start’s Mid-Essex centres offer a range of services to over 600 families, all of which are experiencing difficulties with post-natal depression, isolation, bereavement and many other issues.

The Children’s Speech and Language Therapy team at Provide Community has been signposting Home Start to parents for many years and felt that the charity would benefit from some additional funding. As a community interest company, Provide invests all of its profits back into the communities it serves; after being inundated with positive feedback from parents who had received help from Home Start, Provide Community was eager to reach out and offer further support.

Michael Glassock, Collaborative and Vice Chair of the Governors at Provide Community said; “It was an absolute pleasure to meet Sarah and Kath to present them with the cheque and hear about the great work they do in supporting families all across Essex. It was lovely to hear how they often work with our Speech and Language patients and how this relationship can be improved even more in the future”.

The £2,000 cheque will be used to contribute towards Home Start’s family group and home visiting services across Mid Essex, which offer invaluable support to struggling families and help to improve the life chances for their children.

When asked about the donation, Sarah St Pierre, Chair of Trustees at Home Start Essex said; “We are delighted to have received this money from Provide Community. It is so encouraging that the speech and language team signposts families to our services as improving communication, engagement and enjoyment between parents and children is one of our overall goals in supporting families with young children”.
