We are delighted to confirm we have agreed to sponsor Colchester United Community Foundation’s Senior U’s programme for another year.

Colchester United Community Foundation (CUCF) are pleased to announce that thanks to the additional funding their popular sessions will soon take place weekly across our Shrub End and Maldon venues.

Mark Heasman, Group Chief Executive at Provide Community said: “At Provide Community, we are incredibly proud to continue our partnership with Colchester United Community Foundation by supporting the Senior U’s programme for another year. As a community interest company our vision is to transform lives by enhancing wellbeing and fostering stronger, healthier communities.

“The Senior U’s programme is a wonderful initiative that aligns perfectly with our values, offering older adults an opportunity to stay active, socially connected, and engaged with their local community. We are thrilled that our ongoing sponsorship will help remove financial barriers and ensure these sessions remain accessible to all. Together, we are making a real difference to the lives of local people, and we look forward to seeing the programme flourish over the coming year.”

Programme Lead for Senior U’s, Louis Garbett, said “Here at CUCF we are delighted to have partnered up again with Provide Community for the Senior U’s programme. The sponsorship from Provide Community is crucial as it allows us to keep the programme free for the members, removing the barrier of money from people accessing sport and mental wellbeing sessions. We would like to thank Provide Community once again for their support”.

CUCF are also excited to share that they have moved to a new venue at the Blackwater Leisure Centre in Maldon, with a modern sports hall and in-house equipment. The Senior U’s Maldon participants have already been enjoying an array of different activities!

Want to know if the Senior U’s programme is right for you?

Senior U’s is a specially designed, free programme aimed at individuals of retirement age, providing a perfect blend of social interaction and physical activity. These weekly sessions offer a friendly, welcoming environment where participants can stay active, meet new people, and enjoy a variety of engaging activities.

Each session is structured to include both social time and a range of low-impact physical activities tailored to different abilities. Participants can enjoy popular sports like Walking Football and Walking Cricket, perfect for those who want to stay active without the intensity of traditional sports. Other fun options include Badminton, Table Tennis, Indoor Curling, and a rotation of additional games to keep things fresh and enjoyable.

Here are some words from our participants at the Maldon venue:

“My partner and I love being part of Senior U’s, not just for the varied (and not too strenuous!) fun activities organised for us on a Friday morning in Maldon, but, importantly, for the good friends we have made. We hope to see more people join us as they are missing out!”

Senior U’s offers more than just physical activity – it’s a great way for retirees to stay active, improve mobility, and connect with others. With a range of activities suited to different interests and fitness levels, it’s a straightforward, free opportunity for retirees to engage with their community and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
